FABRIC FOR THE PLANET

Sustainability

Sustainability is more important now than ever before. We are committed to offer our customers with high quality and low impact textiles. With our growing collection of sustainable fabrics, we strive to produce textiles that have the least environmental impact possible. All of our dyed fabrics are using non-toxic, azo-free, metal-free and formaldehyde-free dyes. Our practices are reflected through the fibers we use, the production processes we do, and how workers are treated. We believe in softening our environmental footprint through conscious manufacturing.

Hemp

Fabric

Hemp fabric is a type of textile that is made using fibers from the stalks of the Cannabis sativa plant. The stalks of the hemp plant consist of two layers: The outer layer is formed from rope-like bast fibers, and the inner layer consists of a woody pith. Only the outer layer of the Cannabis sativa stalk is used for textile purposes. This plant has been recognized as a source of extraordinarily tensile and durable textile fibers for millennia. Its anti-microbial and breathable qualities make it desirable for use in warm and humid climates.

LINEN

Fabric

Linen is a durable natural fiber derived from the flax plant. Garments made of linen are desirable in hot and humid climates. Unlike cotton, which tends to retain moisture for a significant period of time, linen dries quickly, which helps reduce heat retention in overly warm conditions. Outside the realm of apparel, linen remains popular as a homeware material, bed linen and upholstery.

ORGANIC COTTON

Fabric

Sometimes a fabric needs nothing more , but something less. Take the case of cotton - a natural fiber whose cultivation has, for the past sixty years, entailed a massive use of toxic chemicals. Organic Cotton not only saves water, it's never grown with any pesticides, herbicides or insecticides. Organic cotton lets the earth bypass huge amounts of unnecessary chemicals and toxins (1/3 lb. of chemicals is required to produce 1 pound of cotton). By choosing organic cotton you are reducing the toxic effects of pesticides in the environment.

SILK

Fabric

Silk fibres have immense tensile strength, but silk is generally prized for other reasons. Silk’s softness has made it a hotly desired commodity throughout history, and this simple fiber has built legendary trade routes and transformed cultures throughout the Old World. It is comprised of a natural protein fiber. While many insects produce silk-like substances, most of the world’s silk is derived from Bombyx mori larvae, which are worms that only live on mulberry trees. The traditional process of silk production involves boiling the intact cocoons of silkworms and unwinding the silk strand. Peace silk, also known as ‘Eri’ or ‘Ahimsa’ silk is a process that allows the silkworm to emerge from their cocoon and complete their natural life cycle. The empty cocoons are then used to produce silk.
